Frames arrive with demo lenses. Why prescription lenses are fitted afterwards, and how to do it at the boutique or with your own optician.

OCCHIO! optical frames arrive with demo lenses: neutral lenses with no prescription. Here is why, and how to switch to your prescription lenses in three steps.
What demo lenses are
They are the clear lenses fitted by the manufacturer. They hold the shape of the front during shipping and on display, but they do not correct vision and are not meant for everyday wear. Your optician removes them and fits lenses with your prescription instead.
Why the lenses are fitted afterwards
To fit a prescription lens properly, some measurements must be taken with the frame on. The best known is the distance between the pupils; for progressive lenses the height of the pupil centre within the lens is needed too. They depend on the chosen frame and how it sits on your face: that is why they are taken in person.

- Choose the frame. Check lens width, bridge and temples with our size guide. If in doubt, write to us before buying.
- Have your prescription ready. You need a recent prescription from your eye doctor or optometrist.
- Have the lenses fitted. At the OCCHIO! boutique in Crema, where we take the measurements and advise you on the lens type. Or by your own optician, wherever you are.

Check the temples too
Temple length decides how the frame rests behind the ear. Kuboraum L11, a round frame in tortoise acetate, has 150 mm temples, longer than average: a good choice if you usually wear long temples.
