VAVA × Suzanne Ciani. Giving sound a shape
From the Buchla’s coloured cables to red glasses you can wear every day. Inside VAVA × Suzanne Ciani, where electronic music meets your choice of colour.
A red cable can change the path of a sound. And the idea for a pair of glasses. VAVA’s collaboration with Suzanne Ciani began with the Buchla, the modular synthesizer closely connected to her work. The colours of its connections ended up in front of the eyes. The first impulse is to take a closer look at the red.
Before the glasses, a machine to explore
Suzanne Ciani is an electronic music pioneer. With the Buchla she explores sounds and connections, including their movement through space in quadraphonic sound: four directions to listen from.
Looking at the instrument helps explain the collaboration. Modules, controls and coloured cables connect different points. VAVA brings that logic to geometric frames with sharp angles and colours that catch the eye.
Black draws you in. Then you picture red.
The CL0018 Black makes its first impression through its construction: an angular optical frame with an immediately recognisable design. If you often wear black, it is easy to picture it in your day.
Beside it is the CL0018 Red. The same idea lights up. Imagine a white T-shirt, a dark jacket, your hair tied back: the glasses become the starting point for everything else.
The making becomes part of what you wear
The collaboration’s frames are 3D-printed in Germany in bio-based polyamide, with Avional aluminium hinges. For the CL0019 and CL0021 sunglasses, VAVA uses Barberini mineral glass lenses.
These choices give the design substance: printing brings the geometry into being, metal joins the parts, lenses complete the frame. The connection to the Buchla continues when you look at how everything fits together.
Blue or purple, out in the sun
The CL0019 Blue brings colour to rectangular sunglasses. The Purple version changes the mood of the same geometry: consider violet if blue already feels familiar.
CL0021 Black Matte, also sunglasses, takes a squarer direction. VAVA declares numbered editions of 100 pieces for CL0018 and CL0019, and 200 for CL0021. These edition sizes describe the capsule; each product page shows availability for that version.
