BALMAIN
Balmain glasses are made in Japan by Akoni, the Swiss company based in Lugano and led by Rosario Toscano, under licence from the Paris fashion house. The first collection came out of almost a year of work with creative director Olivier Rousteing and was presented in January 2020, on the runway of Balmain's menswear show.

Balmain and Akoni share the same maker: frames built by hand in Japan. In the selection you find architectural fronts, bridges and finishes in gold or palladium-toned metal, decisive proportions. The collection combines metal and acetate, in optical frames and sunglasses.

Optical, in the OCCHIO! selection: Françoise, in Grey Gold, Black Gold and Brown Gold; Yvonne, in Brown Gold and Black Gold; Sentinelle, Admiral, Pierre, Saint Jean and the Brigade series, from I to IV. Sun: Brigade II, Brigade III and IV, B-Bold, B-Eye, B-VI, Captaine, Gendarme, Monsieur, Officer, Triomphe, Fixe and Olivier, a limited edition of 500 numbered pieces.
How to choose
The optical frames sit between 48 and 54 mm: Sentinelle (48/22) is the most compact, Admiral and Saint Jean are 50, the Brigade series and Yvonne 52, Pierre 53/19, Françoise 54/17; Fixe reaches 59. In sun the sizes grow: B-Bold 51/24, B-Eye and B-VI 54, Officer and Fixe 59, Brigade II 60/16, Triomphe 61, Captaine 62/11 and Gendarme 66/10, almost a shield. Olivier, with a 42 mm lens and a 28 bridge, is the exception.
