Kuboraum glasses: a guide to the Masks, sizes and prices

Kuboraum does not call its glasses glasses. It calls them Masks.

Not to hide the face: to give it a shape. Livio Graziottin and Sergio Eusebi have designed them in Berlin since 2012 and have them made by hand in Italy, in thick acetate and metal. The brand's website has no cart: the Masks only reach you through the opticians who chose them. This guide helps you choose yours: how to read a code, the twelve Masks with official measurements, what they cost, where to try them. OCCHIO! ships worldwide from Italy.

How to read a code

Every Mask has a two-part name. In K5 BM, K5 is the model, that is the shape; BM is the colour, Black Matt. K5 BM and K5 BS are the same frame, one matte and one glossy. A longer code also describes the temples: in P8 BMH the front is matte black and the temples alternate havana and glossy black.

CodeColour
BMBlack Matt, matte black
BSBlack Shine, glossy black
TS · TOTortoise
HF · HOFHavana Fire, bright havana
SI · GD · GMSilver, Gold, Gunmetal (metal series)

Codes as listed in the official Kuboraum catalogue.

The twelve Masks, one by one

Measurements are those declared by Kuboraum: lens width, bridge and temple length, in millimetres. Every Mask has its own page with all the colours available now.

Kuboraum K3

Acetate · Optical · 7 colours

Kuboraum K3

A square with a straight top edge and sharp corners. The Mask to start from: thick enough to be noticed, regular enough to wear every day. In Light Havana the acetate lets light through; in Black Matte it becomes a block.

Lens · bridge · temples: 52 · 19 · 145 mm

All K3 colours
Kuboraum K5

Acetate · Optical · 5 colours

Kuboraum K5

The profile that made Kuboraum recognisable from a distance: the top edge rises outwards and cuts the corner, like a cat-eye drawn with a ruler. Full thickness, wide temples. In Tortoise the design reads in the mottling; in Black Matt only the edges remain.

Lens · bridge · temples: 51 · 20 · 145 mm

All K5 colours
Kuboraum K26

Acetate · Optical · 3 colours

Kuboraum K26

Square, with a thick top band and a short bridge that keeps the lenses close. Among the K models it is the most essential: no cut, no slant, just mass and proportion.

Lens · bridge · temples: 54 · 17 · 145 mm

All K26 colours
Kuboraum K30

Acetate · Optical · oversize · 5 colours

Kuboraum K30

The large version of the K: 55 mm lens width, thick edges, a rectangle that covers from the eyebrows to the cheekbones. It comes in glossy black, Fire Havana and two finishes with contrasting details. For anyone who does not want the glasses to go unnoticed.

Lens · bridge · temples: 55 · 19 · 145 mm

All K30 colours
Kuboraum K37

Acetate · Optical · oversize · 3 colours

Kuboraum K37

Same lens width as the K30, but the top edge slopes down towards the outside and gives the front a more decisive expression. Narrow bridge, 16 mm: the large lenses stay centred on the face.

Lens · bridge · temples: 55 · 16 · 145 mm

All K37 colours
Kuboraum P8

Acetate · Optical and sun · 7 colours

Kuboraum P8

A rectangle with softened corners and a flat top edge: the easiest Mask to wear in the P series, and the richest in colours in our selection. In the BMH and BST versions the temples are a different colour from the front.

Lens · bridge · temples: 53 · 17 · 145 mm

All P8 colours
Kuboraum P18

Acetate · Optical and sun · 4 colours

Kuboraum P18

Small, 48 mm, with an octagonal front and a wide bridge: it suits a small face and anyone who wants a discreet Kuboraum. Pithoprakta, with its streaks, is the version to look for if discreet is not the right word.

Lens · bridge · temples: 48 · 22 · 145 mm

All P18 colours
Kuboraum P30

Acetate · Sun · 3 colours

Kuboraum P30

A sunglass built on angles: the lenses rise outwards and the front widens like a ski mask, in acetate. 15 mm bridge, grey lenses. In Black Shine, Tortoise and the NE version.

Lens · bridge · temples: 54 · 15 · 145 mm

All P30 colours
Kuboraum P31

Acetate · Sun and optical · 3 colours

Kuboraum P31

Two large, round, asymmetric lenses inside a thick rim: 59 mm lens width. The Mask that covers the most, as sunglasses or as optical with the TMN version. Try it before judging: on the face it is softer than it looks in photos.

Lens · bridge · temples: 59 · 22 · 145 mm

All P31 colours
Kuboraum L12

High-density acetate · Optical and sun · 4 versions

Kuboraum L12

A thin, very large square, 61 mm wide, with a bridge of only 13 mm and 150 mm temples. The high-density acetate allows a thin rim without losing rigidity. It comes as optical and sun, in glossy black and matte black.

Lens · bridge · temples: 61 · 13 · 150 mm

All L12 colours
Kuboraum Y3

Acetate · Sun · 4 versions

Kuboraum Y3

Kuboraum's pointed cat-eye, for sun. In Liquid Sky the acetate is transparent lilac; Liberty Blue is saturated; Pop-Grotesque and Nova Cobra, with ASIANDOPEBOYS, are hand-enamelled, one by one.

Lens · bridge · temples: 53 · 21 · 145 mm

All Y3 colours
Kuboraum F5

Acetate · Optical and sun · 4 versions

Kuboraum F5

The most sculptural front in our selection: outer corners that rise, a thick rim, the idea of a mask taken literally. Hypercore and Crossover are optical; The Cage, from the series with ASIANDOPEBOYS, and MTL Leaf are the versions with special finishes.

Lens · bridge · temples: 52 · 21 · 145 mm

All F5 colours

The measurements to look at

Three numbers, also printed inside the temple of a pair you already own. With the Masks the thickness of the acetate changes perception a lot at equal measurements: the size guide explains how to compare them.

52

Lens width. The width of one lens. It says how big the front is.

19

Bridge. The distance between the lenses. It decides how the glasses sit on the nose.

145

Temples. The length to the bend behind the ear.

How much a Kuboraum costs

The price follows the construction: the more metal, joints and finishes, the higher it goes. For each family, one model from the OCCHIO! selection and its price.

Optical or sun

Every optical Mask takes prescription lenses, and many sun models can be made to prescription. Progressive lenses need measurements taken in the boutique with the frame on, so they are made by appointment in Crema. We fit SEIKO lenses in our own lab.

Where to try them

OCCHIO!'s Kuboraum selection is online, with shipping to Europe, the United States and worldwide from Italy, and in our boutique in Crema, Italy, via XX Settembre 15, forty minutes from Milan. Availability of each colour is kept up to date on the product page: what you see available is what there is. The story of the brand, from the art collaborations to the Ocean Cage series, is in Kuboraum: the ideas behind the Masks.

Does Kuboraum have an official online shop?

No. On kuboraum.com the Masks cannot be bought: every model has a Request a retailer form that points to the stockists. At OCCHIO! you buy them online, with worldwide shipping from Italy, or in the boutique in Crema.

How much do Kuboraum glasses cost?

A few examples from the OCCHIO! selection: the K5 Black Matt costs €350, the Z14 Gold €430, the D72 BS €550, the P8 BST €560, the J5 BS €640 and the H48 BB Gunmetal €780. The price of every colour is on the product page.

Where are Kuboraum glasses made?

The brand describes them as dreamed in Berlin, handmade in Italy: the design is born in Berlin, production is artisanal and takes place in Italy.

Which is the most famous Kuboraum Mask?

The K5, with its top edge cut diagonally, is the shape that made the brand recognisable. K3 and P8 are the easiest to wear every day.

Can progressive lenses be fitted to a Kuboraum?

Yes, but they need measurements taken in the boutique with the frame on: progressives are made in Crema, by appointment.

How do I choose the size of a Mask?

Compare lens width, bridge and temples with a pair you wear well. At equal numbers, the thickness of Kuboraum acetate makes the frame look bigger: when in doubt, choose the smaller lens width.
