Aviator glasses, also called teardrop glasses, come from pilots' eyewear: wide lenses that widen towards the bottom and, in the classic version, a double bridge above the nose. Independent designers shift the balance: a single bridge, an acetate front, titanium so thin it looks drawn.
Here you'll find aviator optical frames and sunglasses together. To browse a single category, open aviator eyeglasses or aviator sunglasses. The history of the shape is in the Journal: aviator glasses, from the cockpit to independent designers.
Aviator glasses: the brands
In the selection you'll find AKONI, Kuboraum, Leisure Society, Sestini, AHLEM, Clarissa Oliverio, Peter and May and T HENRI. A few models to start with: AKONI Skyracer, Kuboraum P31, Leisure Society Bandini, AHLEM Laplace and Sestini Ventitrè.
Aviator glasses: frequently asked questions
Are aviator and teardrop glasses the same thing?
Yes: “teardrop” describes the shape of the lens, “aviator” its origin in pilots' eyewear.
Do aviators always have a double bridge?
In the classic version, yes; many designers reinterpret it with a single bridge or one in acetate. You can see it in the photos of each model.
Can I try them on before buying?
Yes, at our boutique in Crema, Italy. Online you'll find photos, measurements and availability for every model, with shipping abroad too.
