VAVA

VAVA glasses were born in Berlin in 2013. The founder, Pedro Silva, is Portuguese: a textile engineer who, after years in fashion and retail in Milan, moved to Berlin, a post-industrial city tied to techno and art, and launched the brand there. Production is in Italy, in family-run factories in the Treviso area.

About VAVA

History and workshop

The reference is architecture: Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus, and artists such as Sol LeWitt, Malevich and Josef Albers. Silva thinks of eyewear as buildings and of the face as the landscape they sit on; hence the basic shapes, squares, rectangles, circles. The acetate is Mazzucchelli, from the M49 line; the lenses are Barberini crystal. Alongside the collection come the collaborations: a 3D-printed frame with architect Kengo Kuma; frames with composer Suzanne Ciani; with Raster and with architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. From the Journal: VAVA × Suzanne Ciani. The shape of sound.

Lines and models

Models carry a code: BL and WL for the collection, CL for collaborations. The OCCHIO! selection includes, among others, BL0011, BL0015, BL0025, BL0036 and BL0038, WL0000, WL0007, WL0032, WL0043, WL0064 and WL0079; among the collaborations CL0012 with Kengo Kuma, CL0018, CL0019, CL0021 and CL0022 with Suzanne Ciani, CL0023 with Raster and CL0010 with Álvaro Siza Vieira. Browse by optical frames, sunglasses and Limited Edition.

How to choose

VAVA's geometries change the measurements a lot. The smallest shapes, such as WL0079 (38/29), BL0038 (39/25) and WL0066 (39/30), have tiny lenses and wide bridges. BL0011 is 41/25 and 44/24 in the XL version; WL0043 and BL0015 are 45. WL0032 (50/24) and CL0012 (50/25) are medium sizes; BL0025 (54/20), BL0036 (56/13) and BL0004 (59/10) are the widest.
