About this frame
The FDR model with 100% UV-protective lenses is a pair of glasses handmade in JAPAN by expert craftsmen. The glasses are made of Takiron ACETATE and are suitable for prescription lenses. The frame comes with a case and a cleaning cloth for the lenses.
JULIUS TART OPTICAL was created through the partnership of Tommy O’Gara of The Light Co. and Richard Tart, Julius Tart’s nephew. The project continues the history of Tart Optical Enterprise, founded in the early 1950s, and draws on the designs and documents left by its founder.
Richard knew the company through both its factory and its commercial activities. His experience and access to the archive made it possible to return the original shapes to production while preserving their proportions and identity.
Japanese manufacturing and contemporary materials now support the recreation of the historic models. Shapes such as Arnel, F.D.R. and Seafarer continue a story that has influenced eyewear design, keeping Julius Tart’s work recognisable.
