EYEVAN 7285

EYEVAN 7285 is the name of two years. 1972: in Sabae, Fukui prefecture, Yamamoto Bojin Megane launches EYEVAN together with the clothing brand VAN Jacket, with an idea then new to Japan: eyewear as a garment to wear, not a medical device. 1985: EYEVAN reaches the United States. 2013: a new group of designers starts again from the hand drawings of the 1972–1985 archive and founds EYEVAN 7285.

How they are made

Titanium and acetate, worked in Sabae in around four hundred steps by hand and machine. Bridges, hinges and temple tips quote archive objects — optical instruments, mirrors, tools — redrawn at the scale of a pair of glasses. Hence the low weight of the titanium and the clean edges of the acetate.
