Eyewear trends 2026: the 6 directions that count and 12 frames to understand them

The 2026 eyewear trends read in the order books, not on the runway: oversize acetate, archive vintage, thin titanium, solid colour, sculptural sunglasses and classics with a detail. Six directions, twelve frames in stock at OCCHIO!, what is going away and how to choose.

Trends are not read on the runway. They are read in the order books.

Every January and every September we choose what enters the boutique from the catalogues of some forty independent designers: Japan, France, Germany, Italy. What follows is not a list of «must-haves», but the six directions we saw repeated this year by workshops that do not talk to each other, and that we bought. For each one, two frames in stock at OCCHIO! in Crema, Italy, shipped worldwide. The full edit is in the Eyewear Trends 2026 collection.

1. Thick, oversize acetate

The most visible sign of 2026: shapes grow and rims thicken. Not the oversize of the 2010s, flat and see-through, but high-density acetate, polished for a long time, with edges you can see in profile. It suits strong features, and anyone who wants the glasses to be the first thing people notice.

2. Vintage, remade as it was

Not used frames and not «vintage-inspired»: archive designs from the Fifties and Sixties put back into production with the original techniques, often by the same families. It is the trend that lasts longest, because it was never in fashion: it was right then and it is right now.

3. Thin titanium, a few grams

At the other end of the spectrum, frames you barely see. Japanese titanium allows one-millimetre rims and weights under twenty grams; gold and ruthenium move the conversation from «light» to «precious». This is the direction for anyone who wears glasses ten hours a day and wants to forget them.

4. Solid colour and crystal

Black stays, but coloured acetate is back on the face: crystal blue, violet, burgundy, lilac. Not timid pastels, but solid colours or dense translucents that change with the light. It works better than you would think even on people who have never worn a coloured frame: the rule is one colour, decisive.

VAVA WL0032 Crystal Blue

Optical · acetate · handmade in Italy · €499

5. Sculptural sunglasses

Sunglasses as an object before a filter: lattice structures, volumes, numbered micro-productions. Not an everyday pair but an occasion pair, and in 2026 it is the piece you start from when you want one pair of sunglasses, but an important one.

6. The classic, with a detail that gives it away

Shapes you know — panto, rectangular, soft cat-eye — with a construction you do not expect: a serial number, a titanium nose pad on an acetate frame, a matte finish set against polished metal. It is the trend for anyone who does not want «trendy» glasses, and you only see it up close.

Sestini Carlo III Shiny Black

Optical · acetate · numbered series · €670

Sestini Carlo III Shiny Black

A glossy black panto like many you have seen, until you read the serial number: 9 of 150. Sestini makes numbered series, and you can tell from the polish.

What is not coming back in 2026

Three things we saw disappear from this year's catalogues. «Invisible» frames in thin clear plastic, replaced by titanium when lightness is wanted and by thick acetate when presence is. Big logos on the temples: none of the designers we follow use them, recognition comes from the shape. And the ultra-small sun shapes of a few seasons ago, left only as a quotation in a few archives.

How to use this list

A trend helps you find your bearings, not decide. The path we suggest in the boutique is the reverse: start from the face, the prescription and how you wear your glasses every day, and only then look at which direction the models that suit you fall into. To start from home: which frame for your face shape, the guide to frame measurements and, for sunglasses, the best sunglasses of 2026. For men there is a dedicated guide to men's glasses trends 2026. The brands, one by one, are in independent eyewear brands.

What are the eyewear trends for 2026?

Six directions, seen in the catalogues of independent designers: thick, oversize acetate; archive vintage remade with the original techniques; thin titanium and precious metals; solid coloured acetate and dense translucents; sculptural, numbered sunglasses; classics with a construction detail that sets them apart.

Are oversize glasses still in style in 2026?

Yes, but in a different form: thick, polished acetate, not thin plastic. The rim shows in profile and the shape is decisive. It suits strong features; on a small face a contained oversize, 50–52 mm lens with a thick rim, works better.

Which glasses shape is in fashion in 2026?

More than a shape, a construction: panto and rectangular remain the most chosen, but what changes is the thickness of the acetate, the colour and the details. Among sunglasses, wrap-around masks dominate.

What colours are in for glasses in 2026?

Black and tortoise remain the base. Solid colours and dense translucents come in: crystal blue, violet, burgundy, lilac, olive green. One decisive colour works better than gradients.

Titanium or acetate in 2026?

Both, at the extremes: very thin titanium for anyone who wants to forget their glasses, thick acetate for anyone who wants them seen. What has gone is the middle ground, thin clear plastic.

How do I know which trend suits my face?

Start from the face, not the trend: shape, proportions, prescription. In the boutique in Crema we try the directions side by side; online, the face-shape guide and the measurements guide bring you to a shortlist of models to compare.

Can I buy these frames online and have them shipped abroad?

Yes. Everything on this page is in stock at the time of publication; when a model sells out we replace it with one from the same direction. We ship worldwide from Italy: free shipping in the EU and Norway from €150, to the United States from €200.

Trends are read, glasses are tried on

In the boutique in Crema we put the six directions side by side on your face: ten minutes and you know which one is yours. Online, the collection gathers every model on this page and the others we chose.
