About this frame

TVR®504X – X Series 2025

Created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of TVR® OPT Japan, the new TVR®504X revisits and updates one of the brand’s historic shapes. Made from 8 mm Japanese Zylonite, it pairs the famous 1940s JD design with details inspired by the 1970s Windsor Rim: an inner titanium ring with filigree engraving.

Derived from a rare original 1940s archive piece found in Sabae, the TVR®504X reinterprets the shape made famous by James Dean and later by Johnny Depp.

Distinctive details include the original keyhole bridge, new 7-barrel hinges, three-dimensional rivets and new inner metal cores, hand-engraved using the traditional Japanese Tebori (手彫り) technique. The decorative motif is inspired by the legendary dragon of the Myōshin-ji temple in Kyoto, a symbol of wisdom, protection and prosperity.

Each engraving takes months of work and is carried out by one of the very few Tebori masters still active in Sabae.

The TVR®504X is produced in limited quantities.

TVR® (True Vintage Revival) is a Japanese brand of handcrafted eyewear. Every frame is designed and handmade in Sabae, Japan, the historic eyewear district, by master artisans with decades of experience.

Drawing on original designs from the golden age of vintage eyewear, TVR® uses traditional techniques handed down through generations, such as the keyhole bridge, functional rivets, 7-barrel hinges and miter-cut finishing. Each model is based on original blueprints and archives, following the Datum Expression System, a Japanese method developed in the 1950s to control balance and proportions.

The frames are produced in limited quantities using fine materials such as celluloid and SPM metal, in an entirely handcrafted process.

TVR® works with master artisans in Sabae and makes eyewear designed to last.

TVR® brings authentic vintage back into production, starting from original designs and archives.

TVR creates handcrafted eyewear in Sabae, Japan. Master craftsmen make each frame by hand in small quantities, using traditional techniques and materials such as celluloid and SPM metal. Inspired by original vintage designs, TVR combines Japanese precision with distinctive details for independent opticians around the world.

A frame is best understood when you try it on.

In the boutique, we look at proportions, how the frame rests on your nose and the length of the temples. Trying it on helps you see how it suits your face and lets us adjust it with care.

As a SEIKO Vision Specialist, we start with your prescription and daily habits to discuss lenses, centration and fitting. We explain the options and prepare a personalised quote before proceeding.
